PRESS RELEASE 

The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva is organizing a Film Festival of India at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) premises in  Geneva from 15-19 February, 2017. 

Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the UN, Shri Ajit Kumar, and Director General of WIPO, Mr. Francis Gurry inaugurated the Film Festival on 15 February, 2017.  Ambassador Ajit Kumar thanked the Director General for the cooperation and support to the Mission for the social and cultural outreach activities of India in Geneva.  

Around 600 guests comprising of Ambassadors/Permanent Representatives, diplomats, international civil servants from the various International Organizations in Geneva and Indian community members were present at the inauguration. 

Ambassador Ajit Kumar gave a brief history of the Indian film industry and its popularity and influence on the Indian Diaspora and film lovers all over the world.  He introduced the inaugural film, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and shared with the audience his own experience of meeting the legendary Milkha Singh and his reaction to the film.  Director General of WIPO praised the participation and role of the Indian Mission in WIPO and thanked Ambassador Ajit Kumar for bringing Indian culture to Geneva. 

Following a short reception, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ was screened in the main hall of WIPO.  In the coming days, ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, ‘Queen’, ‘Kahani’, and ‘Mary Kom’ will be screened.  All are cordially invited.
