Statement by India at the Opening Session of the 33rd Session of the Human Rights Council Advisory Committee (17-21 February 2025), delivered by Mr. Mohammed Hussain K.S., Counsellor & Legal Adviser, Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Geneva, on 17 February 2025

Mr. Chair,

1. We thank the Advisory Committee for its valuable work. Since its inception as the Council’s expert body, the Committee has provided research-based advice to the Council and enabled it to consider innovative views and perspectives about important human rights issues, including emerging topical themes. We value the Committee’s independent expertise to examine in-depth a wide range of human rights issues relevant to member States, as requested by the Council.

2. In light of the ongoing efficiency measures and liquidity crisis, India believes that the Committee should focus its efforts on fulfilling its existing mandates given by the Human Rights Council. We also urge the Committee to firmly keep the HRC’s institution-building package as the framework to guide its activities, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and that priorities remain aligned with the Council’s objectives.

Mr. Chair
