Mr. President,

  1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Belize.

  2. We commend the efforts of Belize in protecting and promoting human rights since its last Review. We take note the adoption of the Medium-Term Development Strategy with a view to uphold fundamental rights and ensure equitable access to essential services such as education, primary healthcare, employment opportunities, land ownership, and housing for all Belizeans.  We also take note of the establishment of the People’s Constitutional Commission with the responsibility of reviewing the Belize Constitution to improve its constitutional framework while increasing citizen engagement.

  3. In the spirit of constructive dialogue, India recommends that Belize continues to make further efforts to uphold the human rights enshrined in its national constitution and the international treaties to which Belize is a party.

  4. We wish the delegation of Belize all success in its review.

 Thank you Mr. President.
