Statement by India at the 45th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (22 Jan – 2 Feb 2024) for the 4th UPR of Malaysia delivered by Mr. Gaurav Kumar Thakur, Counsellor 

Geneva, 25 January 2024

Mr. Vice President

   India welcomes the delegation of Malaysia. 

2.  We appreciate efforts made by Malaysia to address recommendations from their third UPR; and commend initiatives such as National Human Rights Action Plan, National Digital Interconnection Initiative, and the 12th Malaysia Plan’s efforts towards poverty eradication.

3.  In a spirit of constructive dialogue, we recommend to Malaysia to:

    i. Work further for promotion and protection of rights of persons with disabilities, including accessibility in employment, education and housing; 

    ii. Work on equal education and employment opportunities for ethnic and religious minorities in public and private spheres; 

    iii. Take concrete steps to eliminate extremist ideologies that promote and condone violence and discrimination, and propagate hate speech against religious and ethnic minorities; and

    iv. Guarantee to all persons the right to participate in cultural and religious practices, and enjoy cultural life without discrimination.
