Statement by Indiaduring the Interactive Dialogue in the4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) ofJordan in the 45th Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (22 January to 2 February 2024) delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India,

Mr. Vice President,

  India warmly welcomes the delegation of Jordan.

2.  We appreciate the measures taken by Jordan to strengthen the legal and policy framework for protection of human rights in various areas. The constitutional amendments aimed at protecting women’s rights and the National Strategy for Women are noteworthy steps.

3. We also appreciate the initiatives aimed at protecting children’s rights. The measures taken by Jordan to promote inclusive education are also noteworthy.

4. In the spirit of constructive dialogue, we recommend Jordan the following:

(i) Continue to ensure effective implementation of its policy framework to protect rights of vulnerable sections;

(ii) Continue to establish projects aiming at alleviation of unemployment among youth.

(iii) Continue to make efforts to strengthen the public education infrastructure to provide access to underprivileged children; and

(iv) Continue to promote gender equality and integrate the concepts of justice and equality into educational curriculums.

5. We wish the delegation of Jordan all success.
