Statement by India during Interactive Dialogue at 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Nigeria at the 45th Session of UPR Working Group (22 January to 2 February 2024) delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 23 January 2024

Mr. Vice President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Nigeria.

  1. India appreciates the legislative and other measures taken by Nigeria in vital areas such as combating human trafficking, promotion of women’s rights, health and education.
  1. India welcomes the measures aimed at improving conditions of women such as the National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment. The National Health Insurance Act addresses an important aspect of safeguarding human rights.
  1. In the spirit of constructive dialogue, we recommend the following to Nigeria:
  1. Continue implementation of the ongoing policies to promote gender equality and non-discrimination
  2. Continue implementing measures for combating human trafficking, and
  3. Continue with capacity building in various areas of human rights
  1. We wish Nigeria all success in its future endeavours.
