Statement by India at the 45th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (22 Jan – 2 Feb 2024) for the 4th UPR of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia delivered by Ambassador Priyanka Chauhan, Deputy Permanent Representative

Mr. President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation from Saudi Arabia and thanks them for their report.

  1. We commend the progress made by Saudi Arabia under their Vision 2030 programme and several legislative provisions for the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, foreign workers, and strengthening of legal and institutional human rights framework.
  1. In a spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following:
  1. Continue measures for women empowerment and their increased participation in education, labour, culture, and sports;
  2. Continue initiatives to improve quality of education, teacher training, and skills development of labour force; and
  3. Continue efforts to improve quality of life of foreign workers, provide them better opportunities in labour market, and assist integration of their communities with the larger Saudi society.
  1. India wishes Saudi Arabia every success.
