Statement by India during Interactive Dialogue at 4th UPR of Canada during the 44th Session of Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (6-17 November 2023) delivered by Mr.K.S.Mohammed Hussain, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva on 10 November 2023
Mr. Vice President,
India welcomes and thanks the delegation of Canada for the presentation of their National Report.
2. We note the enactment of National Housing Strategy Act, 2019 ; Accessible Canada Act; and the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking 2019-2024.
3. India recommends the following to Canada:
One, further strengthen the domestic framework to prevent misuse of freedom of expression for inciting violence and disallow activities of groups which are promoting extremism.
Two, effectively prevent attacks on places of worship of religious and racial minorities, strengthen legislative and other measures to address hate crimes and hate speech.
Three, put an end to structural discrimination against children belonging to Indigenous groups and address disparities in access to services by all children.
4. We wish the delegation of Canada all success.
