Thank you, Mr. Vice President.

1.  India welcomes the delegation of Uzbekistan and thanks them for their presentation.

2.  We congratulate Uzbekistan on its adoption of the new Constitution imbued with the promise of guaranteeing human rights. We note with appreciation that the Parliament has approved seven national action plans for implementation of international standards for human rights and freedoms. We commend the establishment of various institutional mechanisms, such as Ombudsman for Children Rights; National Commissions for Children and Women, and Special Parliamentary Commissions for ensuring compliance with international human rights obligations and monitoring implementation of national SDGs. We also note with appreciation Uzbekistan’s ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and four ILO Conventions.

3.  In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to Uzbekistan:

  • one, to strengthen efforts to provide affordable housing; and
  • two, to guarantee the right to food and strengthen efforts to combat hunger and malnutrition especially for the vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.

We wish Uzbekistan all success.

 I thank you.
