Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Argentina in the 42nd Session of the UPR Working Group (23 January-3 February 2023) delivered by Ms. Seema Pujani, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 23 January 2023

Mr. President,

We warmly welcome the presentation by the delegation of Argentina.

  1. We commend Argentina’s efforts to promote and protect human rights since the last review in 2017. We note with appreciation establishment of the Ministry for Women, Gender and Diversity as well as enactment of the Act on Access to Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy and the Act on Minimum Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Budgets. We also appreciate adoption of the National Action Plan for Combating Gender-Based Violence.

  2. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to Argentina:
  1. Consider expediting the appointment of head of the Office of Ombudsperson of the Nation, in compliance with Paris Principles;

  2. Continue with implementation of measures for promoting gender equality and combatting gender-based violence, including by ensuring access to safe reproductive health services; and,

  3. Consider further initiatives for addressing poverty and reducing inequality, in line with Sustainable Development Goals under the 2030 Agenda.
