Statement by India during the 39th Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group Meeting (1st-12th November, 2021): 3rd UPR of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines - Interactive Dialogue delivered by Mr. Pawankumar Badhe, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 3rd November, 2021)

 

Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and thanks the delegation for their comprehensive presentation. We appreciate the various legislative and policy measures outlined in the National Report in promoting and protecting human rights in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

2.  Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, like many other small island States facing serious challenges due to the effects of climate change. We note with appreciation that Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is taking necessary measures to address climate change impacts, through their National Climate Change Policy, and its accompanying National Climate Strategy and Implementation Plan,

3.  In the spirit of cooperation, India makes the following recommendation to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines:

(a) Consider establishing an independent national human rights institution in accordance with the Paris Principles;

(b) Consider taking necessary measures to strengthen legislations against gender-based violence and sexual abuse;

(c) Continue taking measures against discrimination in all forms;

(d) continue to take efforts to secure support and assistance from the international community in pursuing climate change adaptation and mitigation plans.

4.  We wish the delegation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines all success in its review.
