Statement by India under Agenda Item 6 : Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Honduras at the 46th Session of the Human Rights Council (22 February – 23 March 2021) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary,

Madam President,

  1. India warmly welcomes the delegation of Honduras for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review and its support to the UPR mechanism. 
  2. It is commendable that the review saw a substantive participation with as many as 85 member states taking the floor and making a total of 223 recommendations.
  1. India appreciates that as many as 203 recommendations have been accepted by Honduras including 3 recommendations made by India. India also appreciates the constructive engagement by the delegation of Honduras during the entire review, which reflects the strong commitment, Honduras attaches to the UPR process. 
  1. India welcomes the measures taken by Honduras to protect the rights of children and adolescents and encourage Honduras to ensure the effective implementation of the Public Policy against Racism and Racial Discrimination for the Comprehensive Development of Indigenous and Afro-Honduran Peoples.
  1. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Honduras for a successful review and wish them all success in its efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
