Madam President,

We warmly welcome the delegation of Belarus for the adoption of the Working Group’s report on its UPR undertaken on 02 November, 2020.

2. The review saw active participation and constructive engagement with 92 delegations taking the floor and making 266 recommendations. We also take note that Belarus has accepted 155 recommendations including the 4 recommendations made by India.

3. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Belarus during the review process highlighting its desire to cooperate with OHCHR and thematic special procedures of the HRC within the framework of their mandates taking into account their national interests and priorities. We also appreciate Belarus’s desire to continue to consider the feasibility of establishing a human rights institution in the country in accordance with the Paris Principles.

4. While recommending the adoption of the report, we congratulate the delegation of Belarus for its successful review. We also wish Belarus all success in implementing the accepted recommendations.
