Madam President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Panama for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 3rd Universal Periodic Review that was held on 3rd November, 2020.

2.  It is noteworthy that the review witnessed substantive participation with 64 delegations taking the floor and making a total of 181 recommendations.

3.  India appreciates that as many as 146 recommendations have been accepted by Panama, including 4 recommendations made by us. We also appreciate the constructive engagement by the delegation of Panama during the entire review, a reflection of the strong commitment Panama attaches to the UPR process.

4.  India had noted Panama’s National Strategic Plan and State Vision ‘Panama 2030’ for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. We commended the proactive action taken by Panama to protect the rights of indigenous people.
