Statement by India at adoption of draft report of the Working Group on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Nepal at the 37th Session (18-29 January 2021), delivered by Ambassador Indra Mani Pandey, Permanent Representative of India [Geneva, 26 January 2021]

It is a great honour and privilege, to present, on behalf of the troika, composed of Argentina, Burkina Faso and India, the draft report, of the Working Group, on the Universal Periodic Review of Nepal, distributed under the reference  A/HRC/WG.6/37/L.7.

During the interactive dialogue, held on 21st January, 2021, 98 delegations delivered their statements, and 8 sent advance questions. Overall, 233 recommendations have been made to Nepal. Nepal’s position with respect to each of these recommendations will be examined and the response provided no later than the 47th session of the Human Rights Council.

The troika would like to thank the delegation of Nepal, led by Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shri. Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, as well as other delegations, for their constructive and active engagement, in the process, and in the preparation of this report.

The troika would also like to thank the secretariat for its active support during the entire process.

With this in mind, I, on behalf of the troika, submit this report to the Working Group for adoption.
