Statement by India under Adoption of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of Costa Rica in the 42nd Session of the Human Rights Council (09-27 September 2019), delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, (Geneva, 20 September 2019)

Mr. Vice President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Costa Rica for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its Universal Periodic Review undertaken on 13th May 2019.

2. The review saw participation and engagement with as many as 85 delegations taking the floor and making 212 recommendations. India notes that as many as 197 recommendations have been accepted by Costa Rica including recommendations made by India. India appreciates the constructive engagement by Costa Rica during the review process.

3. India also appreciates various measures presented by Costa Rica during the review particularly on combating poverty, for promotion of the rights of women, children as well as for providing a healthy environment.

4. While recommending the adoption of the report on its UPR, we warmly congratulate Costa Rica for its successful review and wish it all success in its efforts in implementing its accepted recommendations.
