      The 68th Republic Day of India was celebrated by PMI, Geneva on 26th January 2017.  Apart from a flag hoisting ceremony in the morning at India House, a grand Reception was organized in the evening at H0tel Intercontinental, Geneva. The Reception was jointly hosted by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Shri Ajit Kumar; Ambassador/PR to the WTO, Smt. Anjali Prasad; and Ambassador/PR to the CD, Shri Amandeep Singh Gill.  Over 600 persons attended the Reception.  The guests included Ambassadors and Permanent Representatives from various Permanent Missions based in Geneva; senior officials of the UN, its Specialized Agencies and other International Organizations; Indian Community, Academia, Scientists, Media & Friends of India - based in Geneva as well representatives of the local government authorities. 

      Ambassador Shri Ajit Kumar delivered an address highlighting the country’s recent socio-economic achievements with special focus on new progressive initiatives of the government. Ambassador’s address also contextualized the ongoing development story of India.    

      The event was highly successful with one of the most well attended national day celebrations held in Geneva in the recent period.  A documentary film “A Day in the Life of India” was projected on a big screen which was appreciated by the audience.  A buffet dinner, showcasing Indian cuisine was served the recording of the Republic Day parade 2017 was also screened for the viewing pleasure of the invitees.
