2.       We note with appreciationthe adoption of a series of legislative initiatives and amendments for promotion and protection of human rights. We encourage Thailand to chart out an inclusive and participatory drafting process for the new Constitution.

3.       We commend Thailand’s acknowledgement in its National Report that there is a need for strengthening human rights infrastructure and addressing the trust deficit between government organizations and the civil society. We would like to hear more from the delegation regarding the Government’s priority for national reform in 11 core areas.

4.       We appreciate Thailand’s positive engagement with the treaty bodies. We welcome the provision of legal protection for ethnic groups with regard to access to public services. We encourage Thailand to implement recommendations of the SR on trafficking in persons and recommend Thailand to address harsh living conditions in immigration detention centres.

5.       We recommend Thailand take measures to enhance women’s participation in public and political decision-making. We also recommend that Thailand take effective steps to address educational needs of disabled children.

6.       We wish Thailand all success in its future endeavors for advancing human rights of its people.

Thank you Mr. President.
