Statement by India
Mr. President,

India welcomes the delegation of the United Republic of Tanzania led by H.E. Mr. Sifuni E. Mchome, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs.
2.      We congratulate Tanzania for the successful conduct of the 5th multi-party elections in October 2015 and welcome the adoption of various legislative measures for promotion and protection of human rightsas well as focus on efficiency of governance.
3.      We commend the various affirmative actions undertaken by the Government to safeguard women’s empowermentand welcome the increase in women’s participation in public life during the last decade.We appreciate that ensuring gender equality in fields of health and economic activity continues to be a priority for the new Government of Tanzania.

4.      We note with appreciation that education in one of the priorities in 2025 Development Vision and commend the fact that education was allotted 24% of the national budget in 2015-16. We welcome the introduction of free school education by the Government of Tanzania earlier this year and commend the efforts being made by the new Government to advance the education sector in the country.

5.      We welcome the initiatives against female genital mutilation and steps towards protection of people with albinism. We encourage Tanzania to continue to address such practices and reinforce its educational and awareness campaign in this regard.
6.      We welcome the adoption of the National Action Plan on Trafficking in Persons and, in this regard, commend Tanzania for instituting special trainingprogrammes of police and other enforcement agencies.

7.      We wish Tanzania all success in its current and future endeavours.
