Statement by India
Mr. President,

India welcomes the delegation of Hungary led by H.E. Mr. Laszlo Trocsanyi, Minister of Justice of Hungary.

2.      We felicitateHungary on theadoption of a new Constitution as well as the granting of ‘A’ status to the Hungarian national human rights institution.Werecommend that Hungary provide adequate resources and functional independence to the Equal Treatment Authority.

3.      While the establishment of the Subcommittee on Women’s Dignity as part of the Parliament’s Committee on Culture is a welcome development, we note with concern that the Council for Gender Equality has not been convened since 2010. In this regard, we recommend that Hungary redouble its efforts towards combating stereotypical division of gender roles in family and society.

4.      While taking note of Hungary’s efforts towards socio-economic upliftment of the Roma community, we recommend that Hungary take effective steps to end discrimination against Roma in education, health, employment, housing and access to services with a special focus on ending continued segregation of Roma children at school.

6.      We note with concern that the amendment to the Law on Freedom of Information has undermined the right to information.

7.       We recommend that Hungary take measures to work towards improving the living conditions for refugees and asylum seekers.

8.      We wish the delegation of Hungary all success in its future endeavours.

Thank you Mr. President.
