India to assume the Presidency of the 68th World Health Assembly

1.Hon’ble Minister of Health & Family Welfare H.E. Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda will preside over the 68th Session of the World Health Assembly (WHA) as India assumes the Presidency of the WHA, the high decision making body of the World Health organisation (WHO), after a gap of 19 years. In this connection, Hon’ble Minister is leading the Indian delegation to the WHA to be held in Geneva from 18-27 May 2015. 2. The 68th World Health Assembly is expected to deliberate on key issues of global interest including Anti-Microbial Resistance, Air Pollution & Health, Prevention and Control of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases, Global Health Emergency, Preparedness & Surveillance, Global Strategy & Plan of Action on Public Health, Innovation & Intellectual Property and Research & Development for Neglected Tropical Diseases. 3. Hon’ble Minister will also be participating in a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings on the sidelines of the WHA including the Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting, 8th NAM Health Ministers Meeting and BRICS Health Ministers meeting. 4. In his capacity as the President of the WHA, Hon’ble Minister will also be hosting a Reception for Health Ministers attending the Assembly on 19 May 2015. Prior to the Reception, Minister Nadda and H.E. Dr. Margaret Chan, Director-General, WHO will be jointly inaugurating a photo exhibition “Yoga for All, Yoga for Health” to mark the adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. *****
