Indian passports are now normally issued with a validity of 10 years (except in the case of children up to the age of 15 years - please see relevant section). Their renewal thereafter involves the issue of a new passport.
This section also applies to persons requiring additional booklets where their passport has run out of available pages for visas, etc.
A new passport can be issued on final expiry or up to one year before final expiry of any passport issued for 10 years.
It has been decided by Govt of India that while submitting Passport applications, self attested copies of all required documents i.e. birth certificate, educational documents, address proof etc. would suffice, instead of attested copies of the documents by a gazetted officer. It has also been decided that “Duly registered rent agreement, under Section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908 and executed in favour of the tenant by the landlord, for a period of more than one year, will be accepted as a valid proof of address” for the purpose of the submission of passport application.
The following are required:
-
Hard copy of online application to be submitted with all columns duly filled in.
-
Original passport (current/expired) including any additional booklets issued.
-
Resident permit along with one photocopy.
-
Three, latest identical coloured photographs. (Size: 5cm X 5cm) with light coloured background
NOTE: Applications have to be made online for all categories including issue of additional booklets.
