Statement by India

Mr. President,

1.India warmly welcomes the delegation of China for the adoption the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review of China held on 22 October 2013.  We thank the delegation for providing its response to recommendations as an addendum to the report and its statement.

Mr. President,

2. We take positive note of the receptive and constructive manner in which China participated in the UPR mechanism. The review reflected the intense participation and engagement by peer countries, with as many as 137 interventions delivered from the floor and 252 recommendations made.

3.  It is encouraging to note that China accepted as many as 204 of those recommendations. We are happy to note that China accepted the two recommendations made by our delegation concerning the participation of women in public affairs and the continued promotion of economic development in ethnic minority regions and strengthening of their capacity for development.

4. India trusts thatChina will further intensify its efforts to implement the recommendations accepted by it in the coming years. We warmly congratulate China for its successful review.

Thank you, Mr. President.
