Declaration of Ministers of Labour and Employment of IBSA

 


  Geneva, June 12, 2012- The Ministers of Labour of the IBSA (India, Brazil, South Africa) countries signed a Declaration on 12 June, 2012 on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference being held in Geneva (30 May-14 June, 2012). The declaration was signed at the headquarters of the International Labour Organization in Geneva.

 

Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister of Labour and Employment, Government of India, Mr. Carlos Brizola Neto, Hon’ble Minister of Labour and Employment, Government of Brazil and Ms. Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant, Hon’ble Minister of Labour, Government of South Africa signed the Declaration. Shri Mrutyunjay Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India and Ambassador Dilip Sinha, Permanent Representative to the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva were also present in the meeting.


The Ministers exchanged views on the areas of cooperation in labour among the IBSA states and reiterated their commitment to strengthen respect for International Labour Standards, particularly the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.


Agreeing to further develop and promote South-South cooperation, the leaders stressed the importance of capacity-building through mutual cooperation and sharing of best practices.

 

The Declaration also proposed to create an IBSA Tripartite Working Group on Decent Work, to meet at least once a year at the margins of the International Labour Conference to foster dialogue between IBSA Governments, workers and employers as a way to promote integration on labour and related issues, amongst India, Brazil and South Africa and coordinate positions and present common understandings at the deliberations of International Labour Organization.
