Mr. President,

  1. 1. India commends the role of the Human Rights Council bodies and mechanisms in assisting member States in the promotion and protection of human rights.
  2. 2. We are committed to constructively engaging with Special Procedures Mandate Holders and sharing relevant information with them, as pertains to their mandates.
  3. 3. We reiterate that trust and cooperation between States and Special Procedures are essential for their effectiveness. To foster such trust, it is critical that Special Procedures exercise their mandates with responsibility, objectivity, neutrality, transparency, independence, and impartiality, in compliance with the Code of Conduct, as outlined in Resolution 5/2.
  4. 4. We caution against making presumptive conclusions based on isolated incidents or unverified information, as this may undermine the credibility and effectiveness of Special Procedures. We emphasize the importance of considering the perspectives and information provided by member States and ensuring that their statements and press releases are based on verified information.
  5. 5. Furthermore, in line with Resolution 5/1, we call for the selection and appointment of mandate holders to be based on equitable geographic representation and diverse legal systems.

Mr. President,

  1. 6. The Indian delegation takes note of the reports and recommendations made by the Forum on Minority Issues and the Social Forum.
  2. 7. In conclusion, India reaffirms its commitment to promoting constructive dialogue and cooperation within the Council and with its mechanisms.

Thank you
