Mr. President,

India thanks the delegation of the Republic of the Democratic Republic of Congo for the presentation of its National Report.

  1. India takes note of the normative and institutional framework for human rights which have evolved since the last Review. We appreciate the enactment of legislation for the protection and promotion of the rights of disabled persons, basic principles of the prison system, changes in the Congolese Criminal Code for the prevention and suppression of trafficking in persons, and the establishment of National Children’s Council.
  1. In the spirit of constructive dialogue, India recommends the following:
  1. To further strengthen institutional, legal and policy framework for the protection and promotion of human rights;
  1. To further strengthen the efforts to reduce unemployment especially among the young people; and

iii. To strengthen the social security system that guarantees universal coverage and provides sufficient benefits for everyone, especially the most disadvantaged and marginalized groups, in order to guarantee them a decent standard of living.

  1. We wish the delegation of the Democratic Republic of Congo all success in its review.

Thank you Mr. President
