Mr. President,

  1. Indian delegation has taken note of the report presented by the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development. 
  2. We welcome the growing emphasis on the need to operationalize the Right to Development, as we firmly believe that this is essential for achieving equitable and sustainable development, as well as the realization of the 2030 Agenda.
  3. India has consistently accorded the highest priority to realizing the Sustainable Development Goals and providing good governance, which enables our people to fully enjoy their fundamental rights. We firmly believe that the right to development is rooted in the universality, indivisibility, interrelatedness, and interdependence of all human rights.
  4. In this context, Mr. President, we reiterate our steadfast support for the full and effective implementation of the Right to Development. We also urge the Office of the High Commissioner to extend all possible support and resources to the Expert Mechanism to ensure it can effectively carry out its important mandate.

Mr. President, 

  1. India remains committed to the operationalisation of the Right to Development, and will continue to engage constructively with the international community towards the early conclusion of the international covenant on the right to development.
