Intervention by India at the 48th session of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group (20-31 January 2025): 4th UPR of Slovenia, delivered by Mr. Gaurav Kumar Thakur, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 28 January 2025

Mr. Vice President,

India welcomes the delegation of Slovenia and takes note of efforts by the Government of Slovenia on UPR recommendations in the 3rd cycle, particularly on affordable public housing, relevant amendments to the Criminal Code to combat hate crime, and improved access to healthcare for all.

3. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to Slovenia:

First, take further steps to harmonize national legislation, policies and programmes on disabilities with the obligations under the CRPD.

Second, take steps for effective implementation of newly adopted provisions of the Criminal Code on sexual violence against women through training and advocacy among law-enforcement authorities.

Third, take steps to combat stereotypes and prejudice against Roma community and other minority communities and improve access to safe drinking health, water, sanitation, and adequate housing for them.

And Fourth, take further steps to ensure fair and equal treatment of migrant workers, combat stereotypes and prejudice against them, including non-discrimination in labour rights and implement mechanisms for their smooth integration.

4. We wish all success to Slovenia.

Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
