Mr. Vice President

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Fiji and thanks them for the presentation of their national report.

2. We appreciate the significant efforts made by Fiji towards strengthening its national legislative framework in the face of serious challenges posed by Climate Change and natural disasters. We welcome the steps taken by Fiji through its National Climate Change Coordination Committee in the areas of climate change mitigation, adaptation, sustainable development and disaster risk reduction. We note the National Disaster Risk Management Act of 2024. The Community-Based Disaster Risk Management training programme is also noteworthy.

3. In the spirit of constructive engagement, we recommend the following to Fiji:

One, Continue efforts to combat gender based discrimination;

Two, Continue efforts to combat youth unemployment through training programmes;

And three, Continue efforts towards better access to quality healthcare including maternal and reproductive health services.

We reiterate our commitment to cooperate with Fiji towards its development goals. We wish Fiji a successful UPR review.

Thank you.
