Intervention by India at the 48th session of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group (20-31 January 2025): 4th UPR of El Salvador, delivered by Mr. Gaurav Kumar Thakur, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 20 January 2025

Thank you Mr. Vice President,

India welcomes the delegation of El Salvador. We note measures taken by El Salvador to implement the recommendations made in the third cycle of UPR, including those made by India.

2. We also take note of the efforts made by El Salvador in implementation of the National Equality Plan 2021–2025, combating discrimination against women and girls and in strengthening the right of access to justice, particularly for the vulnerable groups. 

3. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to El Salvador:

First, undertake renewed efforts to improve the quality of education through investment in infrastructure, develop special programmes to prevent secondary school dropouts, and improve access to water, sanitation and hygiene in schools;

Second, take further steps against human trafficking as well as tracking of missing and deceased migrants.

And third, review its existing legislation on abortions to make it compatible with women’s rights to life and health.
