Thank you Madam Chair for giving the floor to India.
First of all, Indian delegation commends for your continued leadership in chairing this session of CDIP. We further appreciate the WIPO Secretariat for their diligent efforts in preparing the documents and organizing this Session.
CDIP is an important platform where Member States discusses cross cutting issues pertaining to IP and Development. The discussions at CDIP have also been instrumental in shaping the development policy of the Members States. The agenda of the current session continues that legacy and India wishes to express its gratitude to the Secretariat for its efforts in promoting innovation through the protection of intellectual property and related capacity building in developing and least developed countries through development agenda projects.
Madam Chair,
India appreciates WIPO’s efforts and initiative for supporting and empowering women, youth and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the field of intellectual property (IP). Further, the WIPO’s contribution towards the Sustainable Development Goals by providing concrete services to its member states, enabling them to use the intellectual property (IP) system to drive the innovation, competitiveness and creativity needed to achieve these goals is highly commendable.
We applaud the WIPO’s role and efforts made towards providing assistance and organizing different sessions and assistance in order to increase the Role of Women in Innovation and further to bridge the gender gap in IP. Such sessions not only lead in raising awareness about the gender gap in IP but also promotes how IP can boost women’s participation in and contribution indifferent sectors.
Madam Chair,
Continuing the legacy of discussing projects on pressing issues in the field of IP and its developmental connection, the project proposals for current session on Alternate Dispute Resolution Services in Copyright Offices, Creation of Observatory of National IP Strategies at WIPO, Empowering Young Musicians in the Era of Music Streaming are apt to this forum and we look forward to brainstorm in identifying their outcomes. The project on celebrating World IP Examiners proposed by Saudi Arabia will help in elevating the profile of examiners, foster cross border collaboration and raise public and institutional awareness of the critical role they play in ensuring the quality of IP underscoring its implicit role in driving innovation and economic growth.
We look forward to discussion on various reports pertaining to implementation of Development Agenda recommendations and progress and evaluation of completed projects and independent External Review of Technical Assistance in the Area of Cooperation for Development.
In conclusion, Indian delegation would like to assure the Committee for its cooperation in discussion during the session.
