Statement by India at the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group 47th Session (4-15 November 2024) : 4th UPR of Qatar - Interactive Dialogue, delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 12 November 2024

Mr. President,

India welcomes the delegation of Qatar. India appreciates steps taken to promote the rights of women and children and measures taken to prevent human trafficking. 

  1. 2. India welcomes various measures taken towards protection and promotion of the rights of migrant workers such as amendment to Wage Protection System, bringing Domestic-Sector Workers under a legal framework similar to other workers and the signing of technical cooperation agreement with ILO. India appreciates the setting up of Visa Centres by Qatar to facilitate work visa and help protection of migrant workers from illegal exploitative practices.
  1. 3. India recommends the following to Qatar:
  1. a) Continue the legislative measures for promotion and protection of the rights of migrant workers and strengthen them where possible. 
  1. b) Continue ongoing measures to bring the labour laws in Qatar aimed at ensuring application of the highest international standards.
  1. c) Continue taking measures to protect safety and health of workers.
  1. d) Continue measures for empowering women and girls and addressing gender-based discrimination.
  1. 4. India wishes Qatar all success for its UPR.
