Madam Vice President,

We have taken note of the report presented by the Special Rapporteur.

2. Afghanistan is our contiguous neighbour and a long-standing development partner. As friend of Afghan people, we have an important stake in return of peace and stability in Afghanistan. We continue to monitor the developments related to human rights there.

3.Our common and immediate priorities include preserving the rights of women, children and minorities; providing humanitarian assistance for the Afghan people; formation of an inclusive and representative government structure; and combating terrorism and drug trafficking. India will continue to engage actively with all stakeholders, with the ultimate objective of securing peace and stability in Afghanistan.

4.India will continue to deliver material humanitarian assistance and educational scholarships to the Afghan people. In this endeavour, we work constructively with UNWFP, UNODC and other UN agencies. We also appreciate the invaluable role of UNAMA.

5.In conclusion, Madam Vice President, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the people of Afghanistan.
