Madam Vice President,

We thank the Special Rapporteur for presenting his report and take note of his recommendations.

  1. As stated in the report, actionable knowledge on emissions and disposal of pollutants and hazardous wastes is key for regulators, businesses and communities to prevent, control and reduce pollution.

  2. India has established the Open Government Data Platform to provide proactive access to government owned shareable data across the country. Periodically updated data on pollutants, e-waste, plastic waste and hazardous wastes, besides other datasets, is freely available on the platform. Developed using Open Source Stack, the project is one of the initiatives under the Digital India initiative. It provides single window access to the datasets and apps published by various departments of the Government in open format.

  3. The Portal for Regulation of Air-pollution in Non-Attainment cities, is another initiative for monitoring the implementation of National Clean Air Programme of the Government of India. It supports tracking of physical as well as financial status of implementation of the city air action plan and disseminates information on air quality management efforts to the citizens. The Central Pollution Control Board of India continues to implement various programmes towards prevention, control and abatement of air and water pollution, and provides comprehensive real-time data on air and water quality online.

  4. We request the Special Rapporteur to share his views on what further steps could be taken to promote active and effective use of the information on pollutants and hazardous wastes, to tackle this challenge.

Thank you.
