Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Comoros in the 46th Session of UPR Working Group (29 April-10 May 2024) delivered by Mr. Kshitij Tyagi, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 3 May 2024

Mr. Vice-President,

1. India thanks the delegation of Comoros for the presentation of National Report.

  1. 2. We note with appreciation The Emerging Comoros Plan (2020–2030) which aims to make Comoros an emerging country that is respectful of human rights and gender equality and promotes the rule of law. We appreciate the hosting of “3rd Women Leaders’ Consultation on Positive Masculinity” by Comoros in October 2023, as part of its Presidency of the African Union, to promote gender equity and eliminate violence against women and girls.

  2. 3. We also note with appreciation The Interim Development Plan 2020–2023 which redefines national development priorities and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. We hope that the signing of the Protocol on Accession of Comoros to the WTO in February 2024 will help the country to achieve progress on Sustainable Development Goals.
  3. 4. In the spirit of constructive engagement, India recommends the following:

       (I) Enhance public expenditure on social sectors, including health, education, water and sanitation, child protection and social, protection, and access to quality basic services.

5.We wish the delegation of Comoros all success in its review.

Thank you Mr. Vice-President.
