Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Uruguay in the 46th Session of UPR Working Group  (29 April to 10 May 2024) delivered by Mr. Sarjeet Kajla, Indian Foreign Service Officer (Trainee), Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 1 May 2024

Mr. Vice-President,

        India warmly welcomes the delegation of Uruguay.

  1. 2.  We appreciate the measures taken by Uruguay towards the protection and promotion of human rights, including the adoption of the First National Human Rights Plan. We commend the legislative measures to promote gender equality, non-discrimination, and the establishment of the National Institute for Women.

  2. 3.   We also commend the steps taken by Uruguay to combat human trafficking, including the establishment of the National Council on Preventing and Combating the Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons.

  3. 4.   In the spirit of constructive engagement, we recommend the following to Uruguay:
    (I)Continue efforts to combat discrimination and protect the rights of vulnerable groups

        (II) Continue to implement measures to combat gender-based violence

       (III) Continue the efforts towards improving access to public services and healthcare for persons with disabilities

  1. 5.   We wish Uruguay every success in its future endeavours.
