Intervention by India at the 46 th session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (29 April-10 May 2024): 4 th UPR of Cyprus, delivered by Ambassador Priyanka Chauhan, Deputy Permanent Representative of India, Geneva, 30 April 2024
Thank you Mr. Vice President,
India thanks the delegation of Cyprus for the presentation of its National Report.
2. India appreciates the efforts of the Cyprus Government to introduce positive measures to promote equal participation of women in public and political life. We take note with appreciation of the appointment of women in high-ranking posts.
3. We commend Cyprus for the 2024-2026 Strategy on Equality between Women and Men which is now in effect. We also appreciate the 3-year Strategic Plan on Child Education which aims at ensuring access to learning opportunities for all, through the implementation of an educational policy which encourages equality, inclusiveness, creativity and innovation.
4. In the spirit of constructive engagement, India recommends the following to Cyprus:
One, further ensure access to affordable health care; and
Two, intensify measures to further ensure that children with disabilities, children from socio-economically disadvantaged families, and children in situations of vulnerability, have access to health care, social services and inclusive and mainstream education.
