Intervention by India at the 46th session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group (29 April-10 May 2024): 4th UPR of Chile, delivered by  Mr. Gaurav Kumar Thakur, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India,  Geneva, 30 April 2024

Madam Vice-President, 

India welcomes the delegation of Chile for presentation of its national report.

2. We appreciate Chile’s efforts in poverty reduction through “Chile Supports” plan, including measures to address rise in cost of living, jobs creation, and provision of support to small and medium enterprises.

3. We also take note of the efforts made in Chile’s second National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights and look forward to the next iteration of the plan.

4. In the spirit of constructive cooperation, we recommend to Chile the following:

One, adopt measures to eliminate discriminatory regulations against women concerning marital property.

Two, undertake security measures, including capacity building of law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime and ensuring public safety and security. 

And three, create conditions, including through legislative provisions for improving living standards of Indigenous Peoples in Chile.
