Statement by India under Agenda Item 3: Interactive Dialogue with the Independent Expert on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order at the 54st Session of Human Rights Council (11 September - 13 October 2023) delivered by Dr. P.R. Thulasidass, Under Secretary, Geneva,

18 September 2023

Mr. Vice-President,

  1. India thanks the Independent Expert for the presentation of his report and takes note of its conclusions and recommendations.
  1. The youth represent the most dynamic and vibrant segment of a population. With the largest youth population in the world, India makes significant investments on programmes for the youth. For instance, the National Youth Empowerment Programme is a flagship umbrella scheme of India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, to enable youth to realize their potential and contribute to the nation-building process.
  1. To create an international perspective among youth, India regularly organizes exchange of youth delegations with friendly countries for promoting exchange of ideas, encouraging dialogue on respective cultural values and ethos, and fostering mutual understanding. India has signed 22 MoUs with countries across the world for cooperation on youth matters, including such exchanges. We also collaborate with UN agencies like UN Volunteers, UNDP and UNICEF, as well as the Commonwealth Youth Programme on various youth-related activities.

Mr. Vice-President,

  1. India remains committed to youth empowerment and enabling their robust participation on international issues in global platforms.

I thank you.
