Explanation of Vote Before the Vote by India on consideration of draft Resolution “The Contribution of Development to the Enjoyment of All Human Rights” delivered by Mr. Pawankumar Badhe, Counsellor(Geneva, 14 July 2023)

Mr. President,

The complex and multifaceted challenges the world is facing today have severely affected our developmental journey and impacted our efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. There is no doubt that full implementation of SDGs would lead to enjoyment of human rights by all.The importance of accelerating progress on realization of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development cannot be overstated. Accordingly, India has made ‘accelerating progress in the implementation of SDGs’ as one of the priorities for its G-20 Presidency.

Mr. President,

2. India has been committed to not only realize its own SDGs but also
contribute to realization of SDGs by fellow developing countries through our developmental partnerships. We are committed to sharing India’s experiences in implementing our developmental missions and the role of development and good governance in promotion and protection of human rights in India.

3. During the course of negotiations on this Resolution, we had made
proposals for amendments related to the terms and concepts that are not universally accepted and we believe that they should have been taken on board. As we continue to have reservations on use of such terms and concepts in the text instead of already agreed language within the SDG Framework, India will abstain on this Resolution.

I thank you, Mr. President.
