Statement by India under Agenda Item 6: Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Barbados at the 54th Session of Human Rights Council (11 September – 13 October 2023) delivered by Ms. Jagpreet Kaur, Under Secretary, Geneva, 3 October 2023
Mr. Vice- President,
We welcome the delegation of Barbados and thank them for the update provided today.
2. We appreciate the constructive engagement of the delegation of Barbados during the entire review, which reflects the strong commitment they attach to the UPR process.
3. India acknowledged the response of Barbados to the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated the measures it had taken to safeguard the rights of persons with disabilities, including the adoption of a comprehensive policy on the rights of persons with disabilities and accession to the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled.
4. While recommending the adoption of their UPR report, we congratulate the delegation of Barbados on a successful review and wish them success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
