Statement by India under Agenda Item 6: Adoption of UPR Outcomes of Romania at the 54th Session of Human Rights Council (11 September – 13 October 2023) delivered by Ms. Jagpreet Kaur, Under Secretary Geneva, 2 October 2023

Madam Vice- President,

India warmly welcomes the delegation of Romania for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review held on 2 May 2023.

  1. The review saw active participation with 85 delegations taking the floor and making a total of 251 recommendations. We appreciate the constructive engagement of the delegation of Romania during the entire review, which reflects the strong commitment they attach to the UPR process.

  2. We appreciate that as many as 208 recommendations have been accepted by Romania, including 3 recommendations made by us; and 14 recommendations have been partially accepted by Romania.

  3. India had commended Romania on the adoption of National Strategy on Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction in 2022 and the reforms undertaken in the areas of health, education, protection of women, children and persons with disabilities.

  4. While recommending the adoption of their UPR report, we congratulate the delegation of Romania on a successful review and wish them success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
