 20 September 2023

Thank you Mr. Vice-President,

India would like to thank the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development for his detailed report which outlines his vision for reinvigorating the right to development, highlights achievements in realizing this right over the years, identifies major current challenges for its full implementation, and proposes strategies to overcome those challenges.  We take note of the recommendations in the Report.

The Right to Development remains extremely important for an overwhelming majority of the global population and is central to the realisation of all other human rights. Therefore, we must strive towards operationalization and realization of the right to development both at the national and international level.

India attaches importance to its engagement with developing countries and is forthcoming in sharing its expertise and development experience.

India remains committed to the implementation of the Right to Development and will continue to support the activities of the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Development.

I thank you
