Statement by India under Agenda Item 3 : Interactive Dialogue with the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development at the 54th Session of Human Rights Council (11 September - 13 October 2023) delivered by Dr. P.R. Thulasidass, Under Secretary, Geneva, 20 September 2023

At the outset, India would like to thank the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development for its report.
2. We have taken note of its conclusions, in particular, the conclusion that right to development is rooted in the universality, indivisibility, interrelatedness and interdependence of all human rights.
3. We also take note of the the Expert Mechanism’s effort to elaborate a commentary on Article 1 (1) of the Declaration on the Right to Developmen.
4. We welcome the growing focus on the need for operationalisation of the Right to Development, in the interest of achieving equitable and sustainable development. It is our firm belief that implementation of Right to Development as well as other human rights is essential for realising the Agenda 2030. India has attached the highest priority to realising SDG and providing good governance, thereby, enabling people to enjoy their basic rights.
5. We reiterate our support for full and effective realisation of the Right to Development and request the Office of the High Commissioner to extend all possible support and resources to the Expert Mechanism to conduct its work.
