Mr. Vice-President,

      India warmly welcomes the delegation of Brazil for the adoption of the report of the Working Group on its 4th cycle of the Universal Periodic Review, held on 14 November 2022.

2.    The review saw substantive and constructive participation with 119delegations taking the floor and making a total of 306 recommendations.

3.    We appreciate that as many as 304 recommendations have been accepted by Brazil, including 3 recommendations made by us. We also appreciate the constructive engagement of the delegation of Brazil during the entire review, which reflects Brazil’s strong commitment to the UPR process.

4.    India had commended Brazil’s policies and social protection measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including Emergency Aid. We hadnoted with appreciation the establishment of the UPR Parliamentary Observatory and the launch of the National Plan against Femicide and the National Program to Combat Violence against Children and Adolescents.

5.   While recommending the adoption of their UPR report, we congratulate the delegation of Brazil on a successful review and wish them success in their efforts for implementing the accepted recommendations.
