Mr. President,

1.  We warmly welcome the delegation of South Sudan for the adoption of the Working Group’s report on its UPR undertaken on 31st January 2022.

2.  The review saw active participation and constructive engagement with as many as 87 delegations taking the floor and making 258 recommendations. It is noted that the South Sudan has accepted 222 recommendations and 36 noted. We appreciate that South Sudan has accepted all three recommendations made by India.

3.  We commend South Sudan’s cooperation with the international human rights mechanisms including the treaty bodies to which it is party to. We also welcome the adoption of a series of legislative measures in the recent past that have a direct bearing on the promotion and protection of human rights in South Sudan.

4.  While recommending the adoption of the report, we congratulate the delegation of South Sudan for its successful review and wish it success in implementing the accepted recommendations.

Thank you, Mr. President.
