 Mr. President,

We thank the SR for the presentation of his report.

  1. The spatial variability, intensity, and frequency of extreme weather events, including floods, hailstorms and cyclones, which are mainly attributable to climate change, have been on the rise in recent decades across the world, including in India. These weather events have also been one of the drivers for global displacement and migration. India places high priority on safe, legal, and orderly migration.

Mr. President,

  1. It is now recognized that climate resilience is a critical enabler for the achievement of sustainable development and progress on attaining SDGs. Linking urban-rural communities and developmental actions to address migration has been insisted in previous decisions of the Conference of Parties under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Promotion of sustainable agriculture and its associated value chains holds great potential in this regard. Given the disproportionate impact of migration and displacement on vulnerable communities, especially the youth, it is important to engage them in the efforts for resilient and sustainable food systems.
  1. The Secretary General’s Early Warning for Allby the end of 2027 is a welcome initiative to ensure that people around the world are protected from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving early warning systems. India extends its support to this initiative.

I thank you.
