Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Israel in the 43rd Session of the UPR Working Group (1-12 May 2023) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 9 May 2023

 

Mr. President,

  India thanks the delegation of Israel for presentation of its National Report.

2. We appreciate the continued efforts of Israel to promote gender equality, particularly in political, economic and social spheres. We take note, with satisfaction of the measures taken by Israel to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, in particular pushing for mainstreaming their inclusion and accessibility. 

3. We also note the progress in relation to the rights of children and their welfare, particularly in areas of education and health. 

4. In a constructive spirit, India makes the following recommendations:

i. Consider establishing a national human rights institution in accordance with Paris principles. 

ii. Continue to implement necessary measures for socio-economic development of all communities. 

iii. Take further steps towards improving equitable access to education for disadvantaged and marginalized groups. 

5. We wish the delegation of Israel a successful review.
