Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Romania in the 43rd Session of the UPR Working Group (1-12 May 2023) delivered by Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India, Geneva, 2 May 2023

Mr. Vice-President,

1.  India thanks the delegation of Romania for the presentation of its National Report.

2.  We note with appreciation that Romania has achieved significant progress in protecting and promoting human rights through various measures outlined in the National Report.

3.  We commend Romania on the adoption of National Strategy on Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction in 2022 and the reforms undertaken in the areas of health, education, protection of women, children and persons with disabilities.

4.  In a spirit of constructive cooperation, India recommends the following to Romania:

  1. i. Continue to take steps to prevent trafficking in persons, including through training of law enforcement officials, judges and prosecutors.
  1. ii. Take additional measures towards inclusion of Roma minority in the fields of education, health, employment and housing.
  1. iii. Intensify its efforts to protect persons with disabilities from discrimination of any kind.

We wish the delegation of Romania a successful UPR review.
