Statement by India during the Interactive Dialogue in the 4th UPR of Algeria in the 41st Session of the Universal Periodic Review Working Group (07-18 November 2022) delivered by Mr. Senthil Kumar, First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India [Geneva, 11 November 2022]

Mr. President,

India extends a warm welcome to the delegation of Algeria and thanks them for the presentation of their National Report.

2.We take positive note of Algeria’s accession to almost all major human rights instruments which bears testimony to its commitment to promote and protect human rights.

3.We welcome the efforts made by Algeria in the promotion of women’s right, particularly, the Action Plan to prioritise measures to strengthen the economic integration of women, in rural areas.

4.In the spirit of constructive dialogue and cooperation, India would like to make the following recommendations to Algeria:

(i)Take necessary legal and policy measures to combat human trafficking and consider the provision of shelters for such victims.

(ii)Strengthen efforts for making public spaces accessible to persons with disabilities, including through the adoption of suitable disability rights law and national plan of action.

5. We wish Algeria all success in its future endeavors.
